Energy storage systems can be utilized in various stages of electric power transmission (generation, transmission, distribution, and consumption), offering benefits such as improved power quality; upgrading the current "rigid grid" to a "flexible grid", making the grid more agile and efficient; enhancing the utilization rate of renewable energy and reducing wind and solar power curtailment; mitigating the need for grid infrastructure investment through peak shaving and capacity expansion; reducing electricity costs for users by leveraging price differences between peak and off-peak hours; and serving as emergency backup power or off-grid power supplies.
Each application scenario has unique requirements for energy storage capacity and charging/discharging duration, and the diversified market poses diverse demands on energy storage systems. Consequently, various energy storage technologies will coexist in the long term.
